See the StepsWhat Is the PSA Door Supervisor Licence?
The PSA Door Supervisor Licence allows you to work as a door supervisor at or near any licensed premises in Ireland — pubs, nightclubs, off-licences, and anywhere alcohol is sold. It is also required to work at large concerts and sporting events.
Many people assume the Door Supervisor licence is only for working nightclub doors. In reality, it is the most versatile licence in the Irish security industry. The Door Supervisor licence now covers event security at venues like the 3Arena, Aviva Stadium, and Croke Park — roles that were previously covered by a standard Security Guard licence.
Important — Event Security
The Door Supervisor licence is now required to work at large concerts and sporting events in Ireland. A standard Security Guard licence is no longer sufficient for this work. If you plan to work events, the Door Supervisor licence is essential.
How to Get Your PSA Door Supervisor Licence
Complete the QQI Level 4 Door Security Procedures Course
You must complete QQI Level 4 Door Security Procedures (4N20611) through a PSA-approved training provider. Courses run across 6–8 sessions and are available online and in-person. Cost is typically €395 for the door course alone.
Consider the Dual Course (Static + Door)
Over 90% of applicants complete both the Static Guarding (4N20604) and Door Security Procedures (4N20611) courses together. Combined courses cost €495–€595 and make you eligible for both PSA licences — giving you maximum employment options.
Receive Your QQI Certificate or TRF Letter
Your provider will issue a QQI Award Certificate or Training Results Form (TRF). If applying within 6 months of completing training you can use the TRF. Otherwise, wait for the full QQI certificate.
Register and Pay Online at psa.gov.ie
Apply through the PSA's online portal. The Door Supervisor licence fee is €150 for 3 years. If you are also applying for a Static Guard licence at the same time, the combined fee is €160.
Complete Garda Vetting
The National Vetting Bureau will process your background check. Respond to the vetting email within 7 days — missing this window is the most common reason for application delays.
Return Your Signed Application Pack
Return the signed application form within 21 days with a colour passport photograph and your training certificate.
Receive Your PSA Licence Card
Allow 6 weeks for processing. Once issued you must display your licence card visibly at all times while working. Your name will appear on the PSA Public Register.
